- 1 package (approximately 17.3 ounces) frozen puff pastry sheets, thawed
- 8 slices of ham
- 8 slices of cheese (Swiss, Gruyere, or Cheddar)
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 tablespoon milk
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: Fresh herbs (such as thyme or rosemary) for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Roll out the thawed puff pastry on a lightly floured surface and cut into 8 squares.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the beaten egg and milk to create the egg wash.
- Assemble the stacks by placing a slice of ham on each pastry square, spreading mustard if desired, and topping with cheese.
- Place another pastry square on top, sealing the edges by crimping with a fork.
- Brush generously with egg wash, then bake for 20–25 minutes until golden brown.
- Let cool for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
For extra flavor, consider adding caramelized onions or other favorite vegetables into the stacks. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
