Description
A comforting casserole that combines the rich flavors of caramelized onions, ground beef, and creamy cheese layered with fluffy rice.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 cup long-grain white rice (uncooked)
- 1 packet French onion soup mix
- 2 cups beef broth
- ½ cup sour cream
- 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella or Swiss cheese
- ½ cup French-fried onions
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease your 9×13-inch baking dish.
- In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef until fully cooked, draining any excess grease. Season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the uncooked rice, French onion soup mix, and beef broth. Stir until well combined.
- Fold in the cooked ground beef and sour cream until everything is smoothly incorporated.
- Transfer the mixture into the prepared baking dish. Top generously with shredded cheese.
- Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 40 minutes. Remove the foil and continue baking for another 10-15 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
- Finally, sprinkle French-fried onions on top and bake for an additional 5 minutes.
Notes
Make-ahead: Assemble the casserole up to a day in advance and bake when ready to serve. For variations, consider adding vegetables like sautéed mushrooms or spinach.
