Description
Delicious and healthy oven-baked cabbage burgers, combining the comfort of a classic burger with the freshness of cabbage and vibrant vegetables.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 small head Cabbage (cut into thick slices)
- 2 tablespoons Olive Oil (for brushing)
- 1 pound Ground Beef or Turkey (or ground chicken or plant-based options)
- 1 medium Onion (finely chopped)
- 2 cloves Garlic (minced)
- 1 teaspoon Salt
- 1 teaspoon Black Pepper
- 1 teaspoon Smoked Paprika
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce
- 1 large Egg (optional, for binding)
- 1 cup Cheese (for sprinkling on top)
Instructions
- Prep the Cabbage: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Carefully cut the cabbage into thick slices, aiming for about 1-inch thickness. Gently separate each leaf, ensuring they remain as intact as possible.
- Brush with Olive Oil: Using a cooking brush, coat both sides of the cabbage slices with olive oil.
- Prepare the Filling: In a large mixing bowl, combine your ground meat, chopped onion, minced garlic, salt, pepper, smoked paprika, Worcestershire sauce, and the optional egg. Mix until well incorporated.
- Mound the Filling: Choose the larger cabbage leaves and place about ¼ cup of the meat mixture on each piece.
- Top with Cheese: Sprinkle a generous amount of cheese over the filling.
- Bake to Perfection: Arrange the cabbage burgers on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the meat is cooked through and the cabbage is tender.
- Serve and Enjoy: Remove from the oven and let cool for a minute. Serve warm.
Notes
Consider using different meats or making a plant-based version. Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to three days or frozen for three months.
