Description

A delightful homemade pizza featuring savory Italian sausage, creamy feta cheese, and a touch of honey for a perfect balance of flavors.


Ingredients

  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour (plus more for dusting)
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water (105-115°F)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (plus more for greasing)
  • 1 pound Italian sausage (removed from casings)
  • 1 red onion (thinly sliced)
  • 4 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 6 ounces feta cheese (crumbled)
  • 1/4 cup honey (plus more for drizzling)
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves (chopped)
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, dissolve the sugar and yeast in warm water. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add the olive oil to the yeast mixture, then gradually mix in the flour and salt until a shaggy dough forms.
  3. Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface. Knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Lightly grease a bowl with olive oil and place the dough in it. Cover and let rise in a warm spot for 1 to 1.5 hours.
  5. Punch down the dough and divide it in half.
  6. In a skillet, cook the Italian sausage until browned, drain excess grease, then add the onion and cook until soft. Add garlic and cook for another minute.
  7. Preheat the oven to 450°F (232°C).
  8. Roll out one portion of the pizza dough to a 12-inch circle.
  9. Place the rolled-out dough onto a baking sheet and brush with olive oil. Spread the cooked sausage mixture and sprinkle feta cheese on top.
  10. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese bubbles.
  11. Drizzle with honey, garnish with basil and red pepper flakes, then slice and serve.

Notes

Customize toppings as desired and experiment with different cheeses. Allow ample rising time for the best crust texture.
