Soft Baked Cheesy Pretzel Dogs are a delicious twist on traditional hot dogs, wrapped in a soft pretzel dough and baked to perfection.

- 1 package hot dogs
- 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or your choice)
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet active dry yeast
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup warm water
- 1/4 cup baking soda
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- Coarse sea salt (for topping)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- In a bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
- Add flour and salt to the yeast mixture and knead until a smooth dough forms.
- Let the dough rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes.
- Roll out the dough and cut it into strips long enough to wrap around each hot dog.
- Place a piece of cheese inside each hot dog and wrap the dough around it.
- In a pot, bring water to a boil and add baking soda. Boil each wrapped hot dog for about 30 seconds.
- Place the boiled pretzel dogs on a baking sheet, brush with egg wash, and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
- Let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- Feel free to experiment with different types of cheese.
- These pretzel dogs can be served with mustard or cheese sauce for dipping.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
