- 1 package of hot dogs
- 1 cup of shredded cheese (cheddar or your choice)
- 2 cups of all-purpose flour
- 1 packet of active dry yeast
- 1 tablespoon of sugar
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 3/4 cup of warm water
- 1/4 cup of baking soda
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- Coarse sea salt (for topping)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
- In a bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
- Add flour and salt to the yeast mixture and knead until a smooth dough forms.
- Let the dough rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes.
- Roll out the dough and cut it into strips long enough to wrap around each hot dog.
- Place a piece of cheese inside each hot dog before wrapping it with the dough.
- Boil water and add baking soda, then dip each wrapped hot dog into the solution for 30 seconds.
- Place the pretzel dogs on a baking sheet, brush with egg wash, and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
- Let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- For extra flavor, you can add garlic powder or onion powder to the dough.
- Serve with mustard or cheese sauce for dipping.
- These can be made ahead of time and frozen for later use.
