Delicious soft baked pretzel dogs filled with gooey cheese, perfect for a snack or party treat.
Ingredients

- 1 ½ cups warm water (110°F to 115°F)
- 1 packet active dry yeast (2 ¼ teaspoons)
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ cup baking soda
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 8 hot dogs
- 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or your choice)
- Coarse sea salt for sprinkling
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
- Add flour and salt to the yeast mixture and knead until a smooth dough forms.
- Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces and roll each piece into a long rope.
- Wrap each rope around a hot dog, enclosing it completely, and place on the prepared baking sheet.
- In a large pot, bring 10 cups of water to a boil and add baking soda.
- Carefully drop each wrapped hot dog into the boiling water for 30 seconds, then remove and place back on the baking sheet.
- Brush each pretzel dog with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving with cheese sauce or mustard.
Notes
- For extra flavor, you can add spices to the dough.
- These pretzel dogs can be frozen after baking and reheated in the oven.
- Experiment with different types of cheese for a unique twist.
