Description

Delightful cinnamon rolls that combine the comforting flavors of banana bread with sweet cream cheese frosting.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ripe bananas
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup melted butter
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 package cream cheese (8 oz)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Mash the ripe bananas in a mixing bowl until smooth.
  3. Mix in granulated sugar, brown sugar, milk, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract until combined.
  4. Whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt in another bowl.
  5. Incorporate dry ingredients into wet mixture, stirring gently until just combined.
  6. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and roll into a rectangle, about 1/2 inch thick.
  7. Spread melted butter over the surface, then sprinkle with cinnamon sugar.
  8. Roll the dough from one of the longer edges to form a tight log.
  9. Slice the log into equal pieces, about 1 inch thick.
  10. Place the rolls in a greased baking dish, cut side up, and let them rise for 30 minutes.
  11. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
  12. Beat the cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth for frosting.
  13. Spread the frosting over warm rolls before serving.

Notes

Make-ahead tips: Prepare the dough a day in advance and refrigerate overnight. You can customize fillings by adding chocolate chips or nuts.
