Description

Savor the rich flavor of a juicy burger topped with sweet, caramelized onions and creamy Swiss cheese.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef (80% lean)
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • Lettuce, tomato, and other preferred toppings

Instructions

  1. Caramelize the onions: Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the thinly sliced onions and a pinch of salt. Stir occasionally, allowing them to caramelize for about 15-20 minutes, or until they turn a deep golden brown and develop a sweet, rich flavor.
  2. Prepare the patties: Season the ground beef with salt and pepper. Form it into four equal-sized patties, making an indentation in the center of each.
  3. Grill the patties: Preheat your grill to medium-high heat. Grill the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until desired doneness.
  4. Melt the cheese: In the last minute of cooking, place a slice of Swiss cheese over each patty and close the grill lid to melt the cheese.
  5. Toast the buns: Place the hamburger buns on the grill for 1-2 minutes to toast them until golden and slightly crispy.
  6. Assemble the burgers: Layer the cooked patty with melted cheese on the bottom bun. Top with caramelized onions, crispy lettuce, tomato slices, and any other toppings.
  7. Serve and enjoy: Place the top bun over the assembled burger, serve immediately, and relish every glorious bite!

Notes

Caramelized onions can be prepared a day in advance. Freeze patties layered with parchment paper for up to a month.
