Description

Delightfully crunchy homemade onion rings that are perfect as an appetizer or side dish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large onions, sliced into thick rings
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup cold water
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Prepare the onions by slicing them into thick rings, about half an inch wide.
  2. Mix the batter by whisking together the flour, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl.
  3. Create the batter by gradually pouring in the cold water until a smooth, thick consistency is formed.
  4. Dip each onion ring into the batter, letting excess drip off.
  5. Coat the rings with breadcrumbs by transferring them to a plate filled with breadcrumbs.
  6. Heat the oil in a deep fryer or heavy skillet to 375°F (190°C).
  7. Fry the onion rings in batches for about 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  8. Drain the fried rings on paper towels to absorb excess oil, then serve hot.

Notes

For a healthier version, consider air frying or baking these onion rings while ensuring to use cold water for the batter.
