A unique burger that replaces buns with caramelized onion rings, featuring juicy beef patties and melted American cheese.

- 1 large yellow onion
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 tsp Tony Chachere’s or preferred Creole seasoning
- 1/2 tsp brown sugar
- 12 oz 80/20 ground beef
- 4 slices American cheese
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 2 tbsp relish
- 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 1 tsp Tony Chachere’s or preferred Creole seasoning
- Cayenne pepper to taste
Instructions
- Prepare the Onions: Peel and slice the onion into four ½-inch thick rounds.
- Drizzle each slice with olive oil, Worcestershire sauce, Creole seasoning, and a pinch of brown sugar.
- Caramelize the Onions: Cook onion slices in a skillet over medium-low heat for about 10 minutes on each side.
- Season the Beef: In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef with remaining Tony Chachere’s seasoning, form into patties.
- Cook the Patties: Preheat skillet to medium-high heat, cook patties for 2-3 minutes on each side.
- Melt the Cheese: Add a slice of cheese on each patty and cover skillet for a minute.
- Make the Sauce: Combine mayonnaise, relish, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, and remaining Tony Chachere’s in a bowl; whisk until smooth.
- Assemble the Burger: Start with a caramelized onion slice, top with a patty, add sauce, and cap with another onion slice.
- Serve: Enjoy immediately with extra sauce on the side.
Notes
Caramelized onions can be made ahead and stored. Experiment with different cheeses and garnishes for a twist.
