A unique burger that replaces buns with caramelized onion rings, featuring juicy beef patties and melted American cheese.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large yellow onion
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp Tony Chachere’s or preferred Creole seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp brown sugar
  • 12 oz 80/20 ground beef
  • 4 slices American cheese
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp relish
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp Tony Chachere’s or preferred Creole seasoning
  • Cayenne pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Onions: Peel and slice the onion into four ½-inch thick rounds.
  2. Drizzle each slice with olive oil, Worcestershire sauce, Creole seasoning, and a pinch of brown sugar.
  3. Caramelize the Onions: Cook onion slices in a skillet over medium-low heat for about 10 minutes on each side.
  4. Season the Beef: In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef with remaining Tony Chachere’s seasoning, form into patties.
  5. Cook the Patties: Preheat skillet to medium-high heat, cook patties for 2-3 minutes on each side.
  6. Melt the Cheese: Add a slice of cheese on each patty and cover skillet for a minute.
  7. Make the Sauce: Combine mayonnaise, relish, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, and remaining Tony Chachere’s in a bowl; whisk until smooth.
  8. Assemble the Burger: Start with a caramelized onion slice, top with a patty, add sauce, and cap with another onion slice.
  9. Serve: Enjoy immediately with extra sauce on the side.

Notes

Caramelized onions can be made ahead and stored. Experiment with different cheeses and garnishes for a twist.
