Description

Aromatic and flavorful Italian Herb Cheese Bread with a soft texture, golden crust, and melted cheese, perfect for any meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (mozzarella or blend)
  • 2 tablespoons mixed Italian herbs (oregano, basil, thyme)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced (optional)

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast: Combine the warm water, active dry yeast, and sugar. Allow it to sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Combine the dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, and Italian herbs.
  3. Mix the dough: Pour yeast mixture and olive oil into dry ingredients. Stir until a sticky dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough: Knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Rise the dough: Place in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise for 1 hour until doubled in size.
  6. Preheat the oven: Preheat to 375°F (190°C).
  7. Prepare for filling: Roll out the dough, sprinkle cheese and garlic over it.
  8. Roll it up: Roll the dough into a tight log, sealing the filling inside.
  9. Final rise: Place seam-side down in a greased pan, cover, and rise for 30 minutes.
  10. Bake: Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  11. Cool & slice: Allow to cool for a few minutes before slicing.

Notes

For quicker methods, use an air fryer at 320°F for 15-20 minutes. Consider adding sun-dried tomatoes or olives for customization.
