Description

A hearty and comforting casserole blending rich flavors of ground beef, earthy mushrooms, and creamy Swiss cheese, topped with crispy tater tots.


Ingredients

  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 8 ounces mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup shredded Swiss cheese
  • 4 cups frozen tater tots
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Sauté the beef in a large skillet over medium heat until browned; about 5 to 7 minutes.
  3. Add the diced onion and sliced mushrooms; sauté for another 5 to 7 minutes.
  4. Stir in the minced garlic, salt, pepper, Worcestershire sauce, beef broth, and heavy cream and let simmer for 5 minutes.
  5. Mix in 1/2 cup of the shredded Swiss cheese, thyme, and paprika.
  6. Transfer the mixture into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
  7. Top with frozen tater tots, then sprinkle the remaining Swiss cheese over them.
  8. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes until tater tots are golden-brown.
  9. Garnish with chopped parsley before serving.

Notes

Make-ahead tips: Prepare the beef and mushroom mixture a day in advance. Can substitute ground turkey for a lighter option.
