Description

A delicious twist on the classic sloppy Joe that combines the flavors of a Philly cheesesteak with tender meat, sautéed veggies, and melted provolone cheese.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef or turkey
  • 1 bell pepper, diced
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup mushrooms, diced
  • 1 cup provolone cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • Olive oil

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Sauté the diced onion, bell pepper, and mushrooms for about 5 minutes until soft and fragrant.
  3. Add minced garlic and cook for another minute.
  4. Brown the ground beef or turkey until cooked through, about 6-7 minutes.
  5. Combine the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, stirring into the meat and veggies.
  6. Season with salt and pepper, reduce heat, and let simmer for 5-10 minutes until thickened.
  7. Toast the hamburger buns while the mixture simmers.
  8. Assemble by spooning the mixture onto the buns and topping with shredded provolone cheese. Serve warm.

Notes

Make ahead by refrigerating the mixture for up to three days or freeze it for longer storage. Customize with your choice of cheese or add spicy peppers for a kick.
